Bradenham v Dersingham Thurs 5 May 11

The U13s began their 2011 campaign with a home fixture against a strong Dersingham side. With 3 U11s in the side, the home team batted first and ended on 260 with the loss of 7 wickets. Thomas Younie top scoring with 8. Dersingham were as strong with their batting as they were with their bowling, but Bradenham stuck to their task and were impressive in the field. Dersingham finished on 297 for 3. Miles Wheeler took the bowling honours taking 2 wkts in a row. Special mention must be given to Tyler Murphy, who also took a wicket, Jack Ashford and Matthew Gaskins who were all playing in a higher age group. The team's attitude and commitment was first rate and the first win of the season is imminent.

Bradenham v Swanton Morley Weds 11 May 11

A resounding win for the U13s with a noticeable improvement in all areas. Led impressively by Robert Ellis, Bradenham fielded 1st and were quickly amongst the wickets with Jordan Young claiming one with his second ball. Further wickets fell to Ellis (2), Tyler Murphy (1) and Jack Asford who took 3 in his 1st over. Swanton Morley ended on 275 for 7. Ellis and Murphy opened the batting and completed their 4 overs without losing a wicket. Ellis smashing 21 and Murphy a well crafted 6. The trend for not losing wckets was to continue as every pair repeated the feat. Contributions all down the order combined with the loss of no wickets ensured that Bradenham completed their innings on 304 without loss.

Mattishall v Bradenham Tues 17 May 11

Bradenham U13s travelled to Mattishall in their first away venture of the season. Batting first they finished on 295 for 7 with skipper Rob Ellis once again leading by example and top scoring with 23. The 4th pairing of Mateo Henman and Todd Cantwell gave a batting master class, manipulating the ball to all parts in a demonstration of how to keep the scoreboard moving without giving chances. With the loss of 8 runs for every wicket taken, Bradenham had given the home side a good opportunity to overhaul their total, but some excellent bowling and fielding prevented Mattishall from reaching their target. They amassed 264 but lost 5 wickets in the process and Bradenham left with the points. With 2 run outs the remaining wickets were shared between Myles Wheeler, Henman and Cantwell. They were assisted by miserly spells from Tyler Murphy (2 overs for 2 runs) and Jordan Young who bowled a maiden from his 1 over.

Bradenham v Gt Witchingham Weds 25 May 2011

Bradenham U13s entertained Gt Witchingham and after losing the toss were invited to bat. The opening pair of Robert Ellis and Louie Seaton provided the home side with a fast start as they amassed 47 from their 4 overs, with Seaton particularly hard on the opening attack. Bradenham failed to capitalise on this excellent stand as wickets tumbled at an alarming rate. The final pairing of Mateo Henman, batting superbly for 26 runs, and Todd Cantwell ensured that the hosts could, at least, post a positive nett score of 214. The visitors reply began solidly with the 1st pairing ensuring that they lost no wickets and contributing 21 to the Witchingham cause. The introduction of Myles Wheeler into the attack gave the home side hope as he took 2 wickets with successive balls however with only a run out as the 3rd wicket the visitors finished their innings with nett 250 aided by an excellent 26 from Will Rogers.

Horsford v Bradenham Fri 10 Jun 2011

Bradenham U13s travelled to Horsford and secured a dramatic win against a backdrop of persistent showers. Electing to field, things looked ominous with 6 wides conceded from the 2nd ball of the match. The hosts 1st pairing batted sensibly and accumulated 21 runs from their 4 overs with, crucially, no wickets lost. Once again it was Myles Wheeler, the seasons leading wicket taker, who made the breakthrough, helped by an exceptional catch from Mateo Henman, his figures of 3 overs, 2 for 8 and Louie Seaton’s 2 overs for 3 runs were to prove decisive as the game progressed.  Horsford’s innings ended on 270 for 2. The Bradenham reply began badly with the 1st pairing scoring 17 runs, but losing 2 wickets in the process. When the final pairing of Todd Cantwell and Mateo Henman walked to the crease they required an unlikely score of 37 to win with the added pressure of that target becoming higher if they lost wickets. Each of these batsmen attacked the home side’s bowling and the belief began to grow as they rapidly reeled in the deficit. When Henman was caught, the dream looked to be shattered but both batsmen took this in their stride, Cantwell delivering a Man of the Match performance with his undefeated 24,  as they eased past the Horsford total with Henman offering a solid defensive block to the last ball to secure the victory.

Dereham v Bradenham Wed 15 Jun 11

It was a bad day at the office for the U13s coming off the back of an excellent win in their previous game. Batting 1st, Bradenham never got any momentum against a solid Dereham bowling attack and as well as not scoring with their usual panache they lost wickets at regular intervals and this was to prove costly as they set the home side a modest target of 225 for victory. With Mateo Henman going for an uncustomry 14 from his 1st over, things looked ominous. A number of dropped catches did little to raise team spirit and following a 40 run loss to their local rivals the bragging rights belonged firmly to the home side

Bradenham v Fakenham Wed 29 Jun 11

Bradenham U13s completed their league programme with a home defeat to leaders Fakenham. Winning the toss Bradenham Captain Rob Ellis elected to field and after the opening delivery was dispatched for a boundary the home side knew the magnitude of the task ahead. With the visitors opening pair putting on 32 without loss from their 4 overs, it was, once again, Myles Wheeler who made the breakthrough in his 2nd over. Another wicket was to fall in the next over and this lifted the spirits of the home side with an excellent piece of fielding resulting in a run out. The visitors continued to build an impressive total and the arrival of County player Lloyd Marshall to the crease increased the impetus still further as he looked to attack the home bowling and succeeded in hitting 5 boundaries before an impressive final over from Mateo Henman saw Marshall sky one to Rob Ellis in the deep and he made no mistake in taking the catch. The same combination proved successful 2 balls later as another forcing shot from Marshall was drilled hard and straight at Ellis and he made no mistake. Fakenham finished on 326 for 6. A controlled bowling display ensured that runs were at a premium for the home side and wickets fell at regular intervals during the home side’s run chase.  Of particular note was Chris, a leg spinner who mesmerised the home batsmen finishing on figures of 3 overs 4 wkts for 2
runs. The only 6 of the match came from Luke Ash but he was to lose a wicket shortly after. Todd Cantwell batted aggressively and was easily the top scorer for the hosts with 21 in a total of 263 for 8. It has been a season of mixed fortunes for this young side but their enthusiasm and commitment has never diminished as a comfortable mid table position was established.
